Golf Shop Goodies: 71st Senior PGA Championship
I spent the afternoon at Colorado Golf Club, site of the 71st Senior PGA Championship, and part of my wanderings led me to the PGA Merchandise Shop. As with most tourneys of this caliber, guests are invited to purchase any number of items with the Senior PGA Championship logo on them. Appreciating that Colorado won't see another high-level tournament until the 2011 U.S. Women’s Open Championship comes to The Broadmoor, this is an opportune time to get some cool memorabilia.
NIKE, Cutter & Buck and Head
Browse the racks and you'll find a great selection of men's and women's golf polos, pullovers, long sleeve shirts and jackets, women's sleeveless tops and children's wear—there is even clothing for toddlers and infants.
"The NIKE apparel is a tech line, which is 100% polyester," said Michael Henry, NIKE golf rep for Colorado, Utah and Wyoming. "We have Cutter & Buck golf shirts in a cotton-poly blend, Cutter & Buck outwear, and garb for boys and girls, and we have golf shirts, and hat and tee shirt combos from Head, so there is something for everybody here."
Patio Tumblers, Caddie Towels and Teddy Bears
If you're looking for plastic glasses for the patio $28 will buy you a set of two, a caddie towel will run you $15, a ball cap and tee set runs $39, teddy bears cost $24, kids caps are $19, and children's tees run $17. The Shop also has "Cracking the Code", a book authored by Paul Azinger, ball markers, tote bags, sleeves of golf balls and Colorado Golf Club 71st Senior PGA Championship flags, among other items.
Shades of Glory
During the tournament the shop is carrying a cool line of shades from Kaenon, the same eyewear that you'll see some TOUR players sporting, including Paul Azinger, Brian Gay, Robert Allenby and Kevin Stadler. The sunglasses retail from between $160 and $305.
"If you watch the players on TOUR that wear our products you’ll see that they actually wear them on their face and not just on their hat," explains Alan Burt, a rep for the Newport Beach, CA-based company. "Our SR-91 material has the best of both worlds; the optical acuity of glass lens and the impact resistence of a poly-carbonite lens. It is truly different than anything out there on the market. Fuzzy Zoeller is wearing our stuff—he put on a pair (for the Tuesday Pro-Am) and hasn’t taken them off. "
