Antigua's Outerwear Suits Mountain West Climate Quite Well.
Now that it's March, you know how "iffy" the Front Range weather is...64 and delightful for golf one day...or 22 degrees with 16 inches of snow a few days later. All the more reason to be prepared for your rounds wearing Antigua's outerwear collection. Named by founder Tom Dooley after his 1978 vacation to the British West Indies, Antigua (pronounced an-TEE-gwah) has grown from a modest warehouse in Scottsdale, AZ to become one of America’s leading designers and marketers of lifestyle apparel.
Layering — Step One: Get Mocked.
Antigua's outerwear functions beautifully in the Mountain West climate, so whether you're teeing up in Taos, New Mexico, playing from a bunker in Boulder, Colorado or crushing a drive in St. George, Utah you'll appreciate a variety of layering options. Start by slipping on the "Hero", a long sleeve mock constructed with a hyper-micro poly fleeced backing against an incredibly soft interlock face. Antigua's proprietary Desert Dry moisture management technology sets the stage for keeping you warm and dry.
“Desert Dry is a moisture-wicking fabric that combines micro poly with fine yarns,” said Sean Gregg, director of design and product development. “It has the technical qualities to allow breathability and rapid wicking, yet is lighter and less restrictive during play.”
Layering — Step Two: Grab a Shell.
Next add the company's "Succeed" stretch jersey. Comprised of 84% polyester and16% spandex, the fleece long sleeve pullover half zip shell can be worn under a jacket, over a base layer or both depending on climate and preference.
“Through five hours of play you need the flexibility to adjust to shifts in the weather,” added Gregg. “When you go out (with our apparel), especially early in the season, you can be wearing a Hero, a jersey and a jacket. This allows you to add or remove clothing as the day evolves.”
Layering — Step Three: Add a Jacket.
Antigua's 2011 line of outerwear includes the Atlas, a 100% polyester water resistant, fully seam sealed jacket, the Viper, a 100% polyester jersey Desert Dry moisture management jacket, the Highland, a 100% polyester interlock knit Desert Dry Xtra-lite water resistant long sleeve full zip jacket and the Traverse, a 100% Polyester bonded fleece water resistant full zip jacket.
Worn by the Pros.
Look closely enough either during a broadcast or if you're at a tourney and you'll see that Antigua apparel is worn by players on the PGA (Billy Mayfair, Notah Begay III, Kevin Streelman), LPGA (Brittany Lang, Stacy Prammanasudh) and Champions Tours (Tom Pernice, Jr.). You can find men's and women's apparel in select pro shops or get the goods online at shop.antigua.com/ and iznadgolf.com/antigua.html. Prices range from around $48 to $125.
