I've followed the crowd...
I finally bought a "Burner" Driver!
I bought the 2008 version 10 degree loft, Light shaft. Light is PC for Senior shaft..... none of us 50s folks like to think we're Seniors! Prior to this I was hitting an offset Cobra driver and it provided a beautiful shot, but flew so high in the air that I was wasting power on height instead of length. Now my drives are about 20 yards longer, handicap is down to a 14.6 index and I have a much better opportunity to reach the greens in regulation. It helped to hit a Burner before purchasing. Tried girl friend's Burner with a pink shaft - probably a lady's shaft and it did not go well. Be sure the length fits you. After hitting a different friend's Burner driver with a Light shaft, I was hooked. I've shortened my back swing the drives are going longer and straighter that with the Cobra. Definitely worth a try!
Have been walking and carrying my golf bag here in flat Florida. When there is a golf partner or two that have a cart I unload my driver, a small carry bag with all but 2 balls, car keys, water bottle, I reduced my golf bag to 10 clubs only, no extras and it's a lot lighter. We're always together on the tee box so the driver is handy. It's easy to get a drink while others are teeing off and it saves about 3 lbs of unnecessary weight to simply unload this little pouch and the driver. It has been great to get the exercise and maintain leg strength. We'll see how it goes carrying at other locations. On my wish list is a "Golf Buddy" - the lightweight GPS that gives you all the distances needed when playing golf. Right now I use a heavier binocular type viewer for distance reads, that is great for point and shoot, but for a woman, it is added weight that would be nice not to carry.
Still like the Titelist Pro VIx, but found a Bridgestone the other day, that I am liking too.
If you are ever in Naples, FL., The Golf Guys on Tamiami and 7th Ave North have all the services you need. Great clubs, prices, regrips, etc. fix the rubber spikes on your shoes, best golf ball prices and friendly help.
One other thing that I have enjoyed maybe more than anything else this winter is an email that I receive daily called The Spirit of Golf. It is 2-4 sentences that provide a lovely thought for the day, help your mind (and shoulders) relax, enjoy the game and take this nice way of thinking to other parts of your day and life. Here's an example of a Spirit of Golf - Thought for Today:
You can't focus on what you want and what you don't want in the same moment. Whenever you're feeling frustrated, angry, anxious, tense, or any other negative emotion, it's because your attention is glued to the don't wants. As you begin to shift your awareness toward what you desire, you'll quickly recognize in your body just how much better creative, happy thoughts feel.
