03/26/09I've followed the crowd...
I finally bought a "Burner" Driver! I bought the 2008 version 10 degree loft, Light shaft. Light is PC for Senior shaft..... none of us 50s folks like to think we're Seniors! Prior to this I was hitting an offset Cobra driver and it provided a beautiful shot, but flew so high in the air that I was wasting power on height instead of length. Now my drives are about 20 yards longer, handicap is down to a 14.6 index and I have a much better opportunity to reach the greens in regulation. It helped to hit a Burner before purchasing. Tried girl friend's Burner with a pink shaft - probably a lady's shaft and it did not go well. Be sure the length fits you. After hitting a different friend's Burner driver with a Light shaft, I... 02/02/09Give the Burner a try.... you might like it!
After watching my friends out drive me time and time again and the wind take my ball places I didn't like, I finally bought a Burner Driver 10.5. It is the 2008 model and has a Light shaft (used to be called Senior, but they're keeping us middle aged golfers happy with "Light" instead of Senior. I may have the men's length shaft cut a bit shorter, I'm 5'7", but thus far it performs well. I've shortened my back swing a bit and the drives are about 20-30 years longer - oh joy! I used to think that I needed higher loft on the driver - theory being easier to hit. But the Burner has proven that unnecessary and it cheats the wind better too. ( I have heard that some prefer the 1 year old Model of Burner to the newest... Posted at 10:02 AM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |

11/17/08No Peeking!
Looking at a piece of grass behind the ball while putting has been a big help to me this week - NO PEEKING is my goal.... just listening for the kerplunk. To do this same focus on a blade with chipping and pitching has made my shots go strighter there too. Now I am watching the blade of grass behind the ball after iron and resue shots with the same result - straighter, cleaner shots, few "rights" and "slices" and in some cases longer distance in ball flight. having just come to Florida and playing on different grasses the latter part of the week my scoring has been much better "watching the blade of grass!" Shadows are big this time of year and seeing my shadow move less as a result of this goal is telling! Posted at 12:00 AM | Permalink | Comments: 1 |

10/16/08Girls Weekend in Steamboat Springs, CO
Just returned from a Steamboat trip and the autumn golds and reds were breathtaking! Enjoyed the challenges laid out by Robert Trent Jones at Rollingstone Ranch Golf Club and the healthy fairways & greens. Too bad the rough was so hearty..... The course winds through the mountain offering sweeping vistas of the valley, complete with trains, fresh cut hay baled in the meadow, mountains, the flattops, elegant homes and beathtaking golden trees. The lake on par 3 number 8 not only inspired me to keep my drive to the left side of the green, but the refection of the huge stand of aspens all turning yellow and orange held our eyes competely. Like sentinels guarding the water, these trees made a wall of moving color with just a whisper of wind. Rollingstone... Posted at 10:59 PM | Permalink | Comments: 3 |

Had a ball playing both the Sun Up and Sun Down courses at Las Campanas in Santa Fe, NM. Two of the better Jack Nicklaus courses I’ve played and the clever way they used the natural arroyos made for both challenge and beauty throughout. Having a Bushnell Pinseeker really helped so you could put the distance circle on the end wall of an arroyo and know how far you had to land the ball. Las Campanas has true greens – putts followed the plumb line very well. Because Santa Fe is high desert, the vistas were dramatic and you could launch the ball high in the air without hitting tall trees like in the Midwest. We were there for the Men’s Member Guest and heard a very funny “golf comedian” who had the crowd belly laughing! Las Campanas - Very posh,... Posted at 05:59 PM | Permalink | Comments: 0 |
