Dressed for the 9’s.

House of Carrington

At first glance golf shop or clothing store apparel has “cookie cutter” sameness in styles, colors and fabrics. But a closer study can reveal a lot about quality and craftsmanship.

So what should you look for when selecting shirts or slacks?

“Fabric is really the foundation for any piece, whether it is a golf shirt, a sport coat or pair of trousers,” said Andy Bell, President, House of Carrington golf apparel line. “We are using the best fabrics we can.”

Classic styling, Mother of Pearl buttons.

When they launched their high-end apparel company in 2005, brothers Andy and Tim Bell knew their clothes would have similarities to other manufacturers. The question became how would they be unique?

“It is tough to differentiate yourself, so you have to rely on subtleties and details to separate you from the competition,” Andy explained. “There are a lot of nice products in the marketplace, so we decided to go the extra mile in the attention to detail in terms of how we finish our clothes.”

Look closely and you’ll notice taped shoulder and neck seams, which some manufacturers don’t do. The company also uses real Mother of Pearl buttons versus plastic or imitation buttons.

Great for changing seasons.

Weather in the Mountain West (Colorado, Utah, Montana, Wyoming, New Mexico)—especially transitioning from summer to fall—demands a golfer being ready for quick climate changes.

“We are big believers in layering,” comments Andy. “People aren't wearing chunky sweaters any more. It is about combining a lighter weight turtleneck with a fine gauge sweater.”

House of Carrington has items crafted from cashmere, a natural wool fiber that has wonderful thermal properties and durability. In the company’s specialty store line are tweed sport coats that have kind of country weekend or ‘cabin in the woods’ feel.

Cool characters, cool clothes.

Read the hang tag on any HOC article of clothing and it is hard to avoid getting caught up in the stories behind Andrew, Liam and Isabelle.

“Andrew Carrington is that classic dresser and the quiet type,” Andy said. “He is that guy in every clubhouse you never see practice, yet he goes out and wins the club championship.”

Naturally, on the flip side you’ve got Andrew’s brother, Liam who was the inspiration for Black Sheep, HOC’s line that skews to the younger golfer, the one with a bit of attitude.

“Isabelle, she’s just pure elegance,” Andy continued. “We don’t do a lot of women’s wear, but what we do oozes style and grace.”

If you’d like to boost your style, go to HOC's site or go to select golf shops in Colorado: Beaver Creek, The Broadmoor, Castle Pines Golf Club, Cherry Hills CC, Roaring Fork Club, Sonnenalp Golf Club or Ravenna. Wyoming’s Teton Pines CC carries the line as does Stock Farm Club and Meadow Lake in Montana.

Through 9/24 you can also register to win two shirts at Rocky Mountain Golf.
